Silent Hill created a very intense art world throughout the 2000’s that has led to great art inspiration. Silent Hill was originally published in 2006, then to be be followed up with multiple games after that. The largest I would consider to be Silent Hill 3. The premise of the game is Heather Mason, also known as Cheryl Mason, having to battle against the lifelong following of a cult, that has resulted in the death of her adopted father.

I think that this game is an amazing adaptation of a female lead role. Most games of the time would over sexual women and make them clueless and silly. Cheryl has this teenage rebellious energy to her. She wanted payback for the death of her father and she wasn’t afraid to take on the supernatural to get it. I think her character also represents a lot of uncertainty and sadness, and it combines with the world of Silent Hill so well visually.

I created this piece with that energy in mind. She always looked so worried, and angry with the world she was placed into, what was taken from her, and I wanted to capture that in this piece. This was done also as a digital practice on procreate. I do want to recreate this traditionally one day, as I find my traditional work holds more power emotionally and in meaning.
