Magik has been a character that I’ve loved for years now. When I learned about the New Mutants and their characters, I was automatically attracted to the character design of Magik.

I love her in her X-men suit, but mainly in her all black attire. The two spike black headpiece always has caught my attention, and well as her spikey arm and sword. The combination of all of her hard edges creates such an interesting character design. What I love about it is that it fits her personality so well. She has been through quite a lot from such a young age and is like a rock wall. She doesn’t have care for many and holds a strong attitude. The spiky nature of her attire and the comically large sword works so well for her personality.

I find myself always drawing magic as a comfort character, along with Mystique. If I am ever going through an art block, or trying out new supplies, I am most likely drawing Magik to start with.

These pieces I made with those two previous reasons in mind. I was trying out a ton of new paint markers for the first one, so Magik it was. It also worked out great for the limited colors I had at the time to work with. The second Magik I created as a class time passing piece while I listened to lectures. I am not as well versed in digital art, but it is definitely one of my favorite pieces I have done. I think the grungy colors with that bright blue really work for her character.
